Test your fitness as Hyrox heads to UK

HYROX World Series of FitnessMany more of us will be looking at ways to stay fit, so the not-so-humbly named HYROX World Series of Fitness could fill the gap when it comes to the UK.

While there are clear similarities with big CrossFit events, according to organisers it’s the combination of functional exercises and endurance which makes “HYROX unique yet still attainable for people from varying athletic and fitness backgrounds.”

The opening event will take place at the Olympia Grand Hall in London on November 21, 2020.

After starting in Hamburg in 2017, HYROX has gone on to host 24 events across seven countries in Europe and North America.

Everyone around the world competes in the same race, on the same course. Each event hosts up to 3,000 participants per day in an indoor arena.

The competition starts with a 1km run, followed by one functional workout and repeats eight times, with eight different functional exercises. You can see the planned drills for the London event below.

Each participant wears a timing chip and will receive an individual finishing time with comparable results through the HYROX Global Rankings across all events (singles or doubles), divisions (HYROX women/men, HYROX pro women/pro men) and in each age group.

Moritz F?rste, a two-time Olympic hockey gold medallist and HYROX co-founder, said: “We are really excited to be hosting three UK events in our 2020/2021 season.

“We?ve been working extremely hard to ensure the arenas will be safe for our competitors and are confident that we will be able to abide by government regulations with our comprehensive sanitation and social distancing provisions.”

Clearly, as a mass participation fitness event there are likely to be concerns around safety in the Covid-19 era and whether the day will actually go ahead. Those keen on entering should therefore keep a regular eye on the Event Safety Update for further information.

Following UK events on the schedule for 2021 will be in Manchester on January 30 and Birmingham on March 6.
